| Description: | The position of Guarapari islands, included on a region of a biogeografic transition, results on the presence of a conjunct of typical species of tropical and subtropical regions, generating a high diversified fauna. The proximity to the continental platform and the resurgence phenomenon (the movement of the profound waters to lower regions), give support through the nutrient replacement. Guarapari islands are composed by the archipelago of Três Ilhas and Rasas islands (far away, respectively, 3, 10 and 11 km from the continent) and by Parreiral, a submersed reef, near Três Ilhas. It has also calcareous algae and adjacent bioclastic depths. With the purpose to know the fauna of these islands, it were realized great surveys, using mainly autonomous plunges. The results revealed a great bioecological importance, certificate by the high diversity of organisms and by the presence of rare species. It is to point out that the biggest diversity of fishes on Guarapari islands was known on recent comparisons with several locations like Abrolhos archipelago and Fernando de Noronha. During this study it was detected the presence of species, which its known distribution doesn't include Espírito Santo. |
