| Description: | The biggest attraction of Ilha Grande bay is the island itself. Being the biggest of the whole archipelago, with 192 km2 of area and many tales to tell, it was once an isolating hospital and a base for a famous fortress which sheltered since the writer Graciliano Ramos (political prisoner) until Escadinha (rogue). Ilha Grande also hides under its waters the main attractions to the divers: calm inlets, caves, shipwrecks and all the kind of marine life. For those who claim to plunge on Ilha Grande, there are great options for the ones who are starting and preffer to stay in protected places of natural pools or bays. The waters are calm and very warm, making of this first contact a confortable experience. In spite of being easy to rent fishing trawlers or even schooners with boatmen, the best way is to find adequated boats for plunging, because that way they will count on adequated assistance and will be taken to the best points.
