One of the world's most popular shallow dives is at Grand Cayman Stingray City. The three islands of the Cayman Islands are the exposed top of an underwater mountain. Underwater, the sides of this mountain are quite steep, vertical in some places, within as little as a few hundred meters from shore. In addition to the expected coral reefs, colorful fish, and other underwater creatures, this "wall diving" provides something extra-ordinary for scuba divers. Scuba diving in the Caymans can be done by boat, or at many dive sites, directly from shore. Grand Cayman's North Wall, reached by heading around Conch Point, is the most esteemed diving area. It has some of the island's steepest and most breathtaking underwater drop-offs. It is home to Stingray City and Sandbar which are two of the most famous stingray sites in the world. The area has a variety of Stingrays, eagle rays, turtles and coral. |
