Name: Similans Islands
Description: This is the place in Thailand to go diving with lots of aquatic life and many different of dives suiting all level of divers. The East coast with hard coral reefs and many fish is quite different than the West coast. There you will find caves huge gorgonians, all formed because of its strong currents which have removed all the sand surrounding these rock formations. Smilians Islands have have beautiful soft and hard corals that begin at the low tide mark and the slope gently away until about 10 meters when the slope becomes steeper and they drop to the sandy bottom at 20-30 Meters. The mix of corals is incredible with lush soft corals swaying in the current, surrounded by the aptly named Staghorn, Brain, Table and Whip Corals. You will also see tiny shrimps to giant groupers and Napolean Wrasse. The Similan Islands National Park is known for long white coral sand beaches, crystal blue waters, warm tropical nights and cooling breezes coming off the Andaman Sea. Nine Unihabited islands with some of the best scenery in Thailand.
Geographical Location: Indian Ocean
Water Temperature: Water temperature between 27ºC and 29ºC.
Diving Suit: Wet suit with shorts.
Visibility under water: Visibility between 20 and 40 meters.
Climate: Summer begins in mid February and ends in May. Rainy season starts from mid May till October with North - Western wind. Average annual temperature is 27ºC with average of approximately 83% humidity all year round.
How to get there: The Similan Islands are very easy to visit. Located only 50 Kilometers from Khao Lak The Similan Islands may be visited for one day, overnight or on tours. Speedboats, sailing vessels diving liveaboards and even luxury yachts can be chartered or individually booked from several dive companies in Khao Lak .
When to go: January   February   March   April   November   December  
Other Activities: While the underwater world may attract some people, there are also many varieties of birds and animals on the Similan islands that you can see. If you prefer you can relax in the long beaches. There are no resorts or stores on the Similans - only a couple of ranger stations and a few bungalows available for rent.
