| Description: | This dive site is characterized by the wreck of a Dutch ship named SS De Klerk. It was destroyed by the dutch and recovered by the Japanese that renamed it Imabari Maru. Nevertheless, it hit a mine and sank 23 miles southwest of Labuan in 1944. 339 passengers lost their lives, mostly workers and prisoners of war. It's now at an angle of 50 degrees to its port side, being the metal skeleton the only thing that's left, sheltering many marine life. Its steam engine is regarded as a relic and the ship is easy to penetrate. There is a huge hole made by the explosion in its starboard side. The steel propeller is on top of the stern but is no longer visible because it was covered in sand in 2003. |
