Common Name: Flat needlefish
Description: The body of this fish is very compressed laterally. The lateral line goes through the lower portion of the body. The mandibles are very long, forming a long and narrow beak. It feeds mainly on small fish.
Habitat: Associated with reefs, from 0 to 3 meters deep.
Color: The dorsum is dark bluish and the venter is silvery white with black spots in the middle of the body. It has 12 to 14 dark vertical bands. Juveniles and adults have an elevated black lobe on the posterior part of the dorsal fin.
Dimensions: Up to 140 centimeters in lenght
