Common Name: White sturgeon
Description: Dorsal fin composed of 44-48 soft rays, 28-31 soft rays on the anal fin. It is characterized by having two rows of 4 to 8 bony plates on the mid-ventral line between the anus and the anal fin. Four barbels, usually near the end of the snout. Individuals larger than 48.3 centimeters feed mainly on fish, the little ones feed mainly on animals belonging to the Chironomidae family, but they also eat small crustaceans, molluscs and insects.
Habitat: Demersal. It spends most of its time at sea, usually near the coast. It enters estuaries of major rivers moving to the inside to spawn. It occurs at depths between 1 and 122 meters.
Color: Gray or brown on the upper body, lighter on the ventral part. Gray fins.
Dimensions: Up to 610 centimeters in total lenght.
