Common Name: Calico surfperch
Description: Compressed fish with continuous dorsal fin of 9-11 thorns and 24-28 soft rays, and forked fin. Anal fin with 3 thorns and 26-32 soft rays. The body is deep, with scales cycloid.
Habitat: Demersal. Appears in sandy areas at depths between 0 and 9 meters.
Color: Blue silver or bronze to olive on the upper surface, lighter on the belly. Often tinged with red. Fins are usually reddish and dark . Narrow rows to brownish red spots form bars on the sides, the bars are not continuous in the lateral line.
Dimensions: Up to 31 inches in total lenght.
