Common Name: Gulf of Mexico ocellated flounder
Description: The pelvic fins are short, their bases are equal and symmetrical; the pelvic fin on the side of the eye is not located in the midline of the venter. The lateral line is arched on the front part.
Habitat: It occurs in bays, shallow lagoons and coastal waters. It inhabits depths between 4 and 110 meters.
Color: The side with eyes has 4 ocelli with whitish centers: 1 in the caudal peduncle, 2 in vertical line between the dorsal and anal fins and another above the arch of the lateral line.
Dimensions: Up to 25 centimeters in total lenght.
