Common Name: Sablefish
Description: Elongated fish with two dorsal fins. It has 19-27 dorsal spines and 16-20 soft dorsal rays; anal fin consisting of 3 spines and 15-19 soft rays. Well separated dorsal fins. The scales are small, ctenoid. It feeds on crustaceans, worms and small fish.
Habitat: Bathydemersal. Adults are found in soft bottoms at depths between 0 and 2740 meters.
Color: Adults in a black or greenish gray color on the dorsum, usually with slightly lighter spots or a chain pattern in the upper body; lighter on the lower body. Occasionally yellow, albino or with other unusual colors.
Dimensions: Up to 120 centimeters in total lenght.
