Common Name: Shaggy angler
Description: Fish of globular form with modified pectoral fins resembling legs, complete with "feet". The small gill openings are not covered by bony plates, and the first dorsal spine is important to attract prey which it feeds. This thorn, called "illicium" is long. It has three dorsal spines, 13-13 soft dorsal rays and anal soft rays 7. The first dorsal spine is approximately the same length as the second, with a large cluster of filaments.
Habitat: Associated with reefs at depths between 0 and 90 meters.
Color: Coloration of head and body beige with brown to black narrow bands. All fins are blackish brown spots.
Dimensions: Up to 20 inches in total length.
