Common Name: Ocellated frogfish
Description: Small, globular fish. It has a tubular opercular opening below each pectoral fin. The pectoral fins are small and are used for locomotion. The dorsal, anal and caudal fins are rounded with the spiny rays deeply embedded in body tissue. It is usually beige, yellowish or olive brown. The head and the body have dark brown spots. It has three large black ocelli, with an outer ring: the first in the back half of the dorsal fin, the second in the center of the tail fin and the third above the anus. The modified dorsal fin is short with a bulbar lure provided with filaments in the end.
Habitat: Associated with reefs, at depths between 1 and 500 meters.
Color: Beige, yellowish or olive brown.
Dimensions: Up to 38 centimeters in lenght.
Geographical Distribution: Western Atlantic Northwest Atlantic
