Common Name: Painted frogfish
Description: Fish of globular form with modified pectoral fins resembling legs, complete with "feet". The small gill openings are not covered by bony plates, and the first dorsal spine is important to attract prey which it feeds. This thorn, called "illicium" is long. Has 6-7 anal rays, pectoral rays usually 10 to 12 dorsal rays.
Habitat: Inhabits depths between 1 and 73 meters and is found on coastal reefs, lagoons, and reef faces and slopes.
Color: It may be dark blue or black, yellow, yellowish green, dark green, orange, brown, beige, red, or red brick.
Dimensions: Up to 30 inches in total length.
