Common Name: Ascidian, sea squirt
Description: Usually fixed in rhizomes of Posidonia spp .. Form colonies with a smooth surface and with scattered zooids. Incurring siphon with six lobes and excorrente siphon with a small opening in the form of a tong. The branchial sac usually has 18 rows of stigmata (it can be between 15 and 20). The stomach is globular with five folds and the post-abdomen is long and filled by the gonads.
Habitat: Distribution variable depending by nature and depth of the substrate. Usually found in roots of Posidonia spp., but can be found on rocky bottoms. Preferred depths between 8 and 12 meters.
Color: Colonies between white and orange.
Dimensions: Diameter ranging from 2 to 13 cm and average thickness of 5cm.
Geographical Distribution: Mediterranean Sea Northeast Atlantic
