Common Name: Penpoint gunnel
Description: Dorsal fin consists of 40-44 spines and anal fin with 1 spine and 38-42 soft rays. Caudal fin is rounded, slightly elevated dorsally. Pectoral fins is small and rounded. It feeds on small crustaceans and mollusks.
Habitat: Demersal. Found in tidal waters and tidal pools.
Color: Variable color : from green, brown to red. Spaced dark spots forming a line along the center side of the body, sometimes also with light spots. Narrow dark line from the eye to the operculum, sometimes through the eye. Often has a silver stripe (with edge-colored orange or black) that extends from the mouth through the eye to the back of the head.
Dimensions: Up to 46 inches in total length.
