| Description: | Fish with large eyes, separated dorsal fins and 2 anal spines. The scales are ctenoids. The body is dark red; the fins are brighter. Throughout the body, three broad, poorly defined dark bands are found: one from the first dorsal fin to the venter, the other between the second dorsal fin and the anal fin, and the third near the back part of the caudal peduncle. The caudal peduncle is long. It features a black spot at the base or below the rear base of the second dorsal fin. It feeds at night in many small organisms, including plankton. |
