Common Name: Black urchin
Description: Depressed skeleton. Big and strong thorns. A very big peristome which distinguish it from Paracentrotus lividus. Ambulacral plate from the arbacioid type (longer central thrombocyte, flanked by two smaller ones).
Habitat: Infralittoral, it can also occur on circalittoral. It can form one of the facies of the fotofile algae biofilth together with the crusty corallinaceae algae, sometimes near the surface (Madeira).
Color: Entirely dark coloured.
Dimensions: Skeleton with 6 cm in diameter.
Geographical Distribution: Atlantic Ocean
