Common Name: Topsmelt silverside
Description: Long fish with two dorsal fins. It does not have a lateral line. The pelvic fins are abdominal. Dorsal fin consisting of 6-10 spines and 8-14 soft dorsal rays; anal fin consisting of 1 spine and 19-25 soft rays. It has 5-8 scales between the two dorsal fins. There is no adipose fin. The anal fin originates below the first dorsal fin. The mouth is small, placed at the end of the snout.
Habitat: Neritic pelagic. Common in bays, muddy and sandy areas, and beds of kelp. It can also be found in estuaries.
Color: Greenish blue on the dorsum with a silver bright band on the side; silver on the venter.
Dimensions: Up to 37 centimeters in total lenght.
