Purple sea urchin
Description:
Depressed body. Big and strong thorns. One primary tubercle on each ambulacral plate (with five pairs of pores) and interambulacral. The ones with a very dark violet colour can immediately distinguish themselves from Arbacia lixula by its reduced dimensions of the peristome.
Habitat:
Infralittoral (including the tidal zone), it occurs also on circalittoral.
