Common Name: Stonefish
Description: It has 12-14 dorsal spines; 5-7 soft dorsal rays; 3 anal spines; 5-6 soft anal rays. Extremely well camouflaged between the substrate and sometimes even covered with algae. It feeds on fish and crustaceans. This fish has robust spines with grooves, each with a big bag of poison in its base. Their stings are extremely painful and can be occasionally fatal.
Habitat: Found in areas of sand or gravel, in reefs and shallow lagoons and in small tidal pools. It occurs at depths up to 30 meters.
Color: Their colors allow them a very effective camouflage.
Dimensions: Up to 40 centimeters in standard lenght.
