"You have record of the second S.S.Aleutian, built by Alaska Steamship Co. after the 1st S.S. Aleutian sank in May of 1929. The S.S. Aleutian, formerly the Havana was the flagship of Alaska Steamship Co. And ran between Seattle, Seward AK (main Alaska port of AK Steam, and points on Kodiak Island...carrying copper ore from Kennikott (Carniege owned), freight and passengers. Early one morning in 1929, Capt. Nord hit a charted pinnacle rock off the southern tip of Amook Is. While steaming to deliver supplies for a floating fish processor in the island. The vessel sank in minutes. Everyone got off the boat except Manuel Dores, the janitor, who returned looking for his lucky horseshoe. A group of technical scuba divers discovered the wreck in 2003. they establish salvage rights and formed Shoreline LLC to accomplish further exploration and salvage." |
