| Description: | Comment from Yvonne Gutsell on November 02, 2010 "I would like to know more about this wreck. Sadly this was my father's tanker. He was Captain William Thomas Walmsley. It was one of 87 tankers sunk belonging to the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co. (Shell) sunk by U-boats. My father and 53 crewmen and 8 gunners lost their lives. If someone goes down diving could they please put a wreath down there for all the ships company. I was 10 when my father died. I met the 2 cadet officers they were 16 & 18 years of age, the Chief Engineer William Golder, ( his 3 children were at school with me). I would have met all the crew, officers and engineers, not the Chinese crew, apart from the mess boys and cooks, when I was about 8 or 9, after that I was not allowed to visit his ship or see my father because of the bombing of the docks in Southampton, Liverpoo, Heysham and Glaswow. My father never came ashore as he stayed on board to give courage to the young officer cadets." |
